The Meetinghouse Gallery Presents “House of Prentice”

Unique Contemporary American Art Exhibition of One Family, Three Artists

The Meetinghouse, a non-profit community arts organization located at the corner of George Washington Highway and Ridgebury Road, is proud to present “House of Prentice: One Family, Three Artists.”

The exhibition will be opening on February 5, 2023, from 2 PM to 5 PM running through the end of the month. “We are so excited to have an opportunity to provide the first group showing of this family of remarkable local artists,” said Deborah Rundlett, the Director of The Meetinghouse. She continued “This event supports our ongoing mission of building community through the arts.”

The artists are members of the Prentice family. Whitney Prentice, his wife, Jan Prentice, and Whitney’s sister, Priscilla Prentice come from generations of artists. This exhibition comprises over 20 works that examine their styles within Contemporary American Art. This is the first time the three have exhibited their work together.

Jan Prentice is an award-winning artist and founding member and long-time instructor at the Natural Science Illustration program of the Yale Peabody Museum. She is a former Artist-in-Resident at Big Cypress National Preserve, Ochopee, Florida, and at the Huyck Preserve, Rensselaerville, NY. Her work is in the permanent collection of the National Park Service and the New York State Museum. Her work includes focuses on birds in their natural environments.

Whitney Prentice's work explores the female figure and New England landscapes. He teaches drawing and painting at Paier College, Bridgeport, CT; and at Gateway Community College, New Haven, CT; and has taught at Silvermine Arts Center, New Canaan, CT. He has shown work widely including at the Dahesh Museum, New York, NY, The New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT, Spectrum Gallery, Centerbrook, CT, Lyme Art Association, City Wide Open Studios, New Haven, and many others. He was an award recipient in the Hudson Valley Art Association’s 88th annual exhibition in 2021.

Priscilla Prentice creates environments that capture a mood of a place and time in both realistic style and abstraction. She also works as a commercial artist working in UX/UI design, graphic design, and illustration. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. Prentice was awarded 2nd place at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists Annual Juried Show 2012 and was a selected exhibitor at the New Haven Paint and Clay Annual Juried Show 2011.

This show offers insight into how three family members share their passion for art, each in a unique style.
