The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to announce that curator and architect Eduardo Andres Alfonso has been named Associate Curator and will be starting his new role at the Museum on February 13, 2023. Using research to situate exhibition histories within larger social, economic, and political contexts, Alfonso’s curatorial practice engages audiences through new commissions and innovative exhibition design.
Alfonso shared, “I am thrilled to be joining the team at The Aldrich. I share their commitment to providing a launchpad for artists and am deeply inspired by the institution’s nearly sixty-year focus on curating watershed exhibitions for emerging artists and dedication to resurfacing overlooked practices. The Aldrich has been a significant part of the northeastern United States artistic ecosystem and I hope to honor this history while also expanding access to new audiences in the region.”
Most recently Alfonso was the Assistant Curator of Visual Arts at The Shed in New York City where he worked on The Yanomami Struggle and is part of the curatorial team for Open Call 2023 visual arts exhibition, slated to open later this year. Prior to his time at The Shed he completed a Masters in Curatorial Studies at Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College where he curated Frame (Traced) (2022), a new commission with artist Alan Ruiz that surveyed how architecture and protocol structure access to the museum and its resources. While at CCS Bard Alfonso also co-curated Ñande Róga (2021) and FIGURE DOOR PASSAGE (2022). During his time attending CCS Bard, Alfonso was a Curator-in-Residence at EMPAC in Troy, NY, where he co-curated Conspiracy Influencer (2022), and a Curatorial Fellow at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University (2021).
