KTM&HC and RSO Collaborate for Heritage in Motion: Identity Through Music

Coming this September, Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center and the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra collaborate to present a three-day music and history-based program to be held at KTM&HC’s Garden House.

Heritage in Motion: Identity Through Music will take place Friday through Sunday, September 15-17, 2023 and each day’s program will feature a performance by exceptional Connecticut based musicians, as well as an interactive experience, all designed to explore the evolution of cultural heritage and the part music plays in our identity.

The inaugural 2023 event will include concert programs titled The Origins of Salsa: The Puerto Rican Heritage featuring the marvelous Bridgeport based Torres Trio; Connecticut Composers: The Musical Identity of our State with acclaimed composer, pianist and songwriter Marc Chan, and friends; and Samba, Choros and Bossa Nova: The Music of Brazil performed by Brejeiro, an acoustic Brazilian jazz quartet featuring award-winning string and percussion musicians.

“The RSO is excited to co-present this unique collaboration with KTM&HC which explores our collective heritage through music” says RSO Executive Director Laurie Kenagy. “The musicians taking part in this fall’s event will perform diverse programs, but share the commonality of musical excellence and an innovative and creative approach to their music. We are also very pleased to have the programming for Heritage in Motion: Identity Through Music coordinated by Sarah Fox. Sarah is a member of the RSO Board of Directors, Director of Music Ministry at Jesse Lee Church, and an excellent musician in her own right.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the RSO and Sarah Fox on this exciting new initiative,” says Hildi Grob, KTM&HC Executive Director. “As a history museum, we strongly believe that our identity shapes our heritage in many different ways, and the music we create tells our story for generations to come. This weekend will be a celebration of the many confluences of Connecticut’s diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds as performed by some of our state’s most promising musical talents.”

“It's a pleasure to have the opportunity to work on this unique concert series with the RSO and Keeler Tavern Museum” says Sarah Fox. “Both institutions believe in and want to celebrate the unique artistry of Connecticut musicians. I'm excited for the community to experience this mix of musical inspiration, talent, and innovation."
