Weekend Workshops – Colonial Trade

In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, explore the exchange of goods that grew quickly after European colonization, and the impacts such trade had on the American Indigenous peoples. Museum Educator Catherine Lipper will use maps and props to talk about the Spice Trade and other global commerce, in addition to participating in a gourd decorating craft inspired by the artistry of Indigenous Peoples. The morning will finish with a snack of homemade spice cake, and blueberries to commemorate North American Indigenous food sources.

It’s a Family affair! Grab your family and friends and head to Greenwich to compete in the annual scarecrow building competition. Dance to live music by the Trummytones and enjoy delicious food from Walters Hot Dogs and Gelato & Cioccolato. Histoury for Revolutionary Ridgefield: A Bus Tour of Colonial Homes

A one-time-only opportunity to tour 20 Ridgefield historic homes with several interior home stops. Ridgefield is home to a rare surviving colonial artisan's workshop, which was later renovated by acclaimed architect and revered Ridgefield resident Cass Gilbert. Many more historic colonial buildings have been well-preserved throughout the town. Learn about one of the town's grandest colonial residences, abandoned when its Loyalist owner fled to England.

The Organization of Chinese Americans, Fairfield County (OCAFC) is pleased to invite families to a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, held when the moon is brightest and celebrates a successful harvest. Get ready for the Moon Goddess to appear in traditional garb. Plus enjoy the telling of the story of Chang-Er, the Moon Goddess and the story of teas along with a tasting. Children will make paper lanterns to take home and moon cakes will be served.

Family Workshop and Tour for Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Creating Coil Pots
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield

The Studio will be open all day for a special day of tours and art-making inspired by the colossal sculptures of Raven Halfmoon. Hailing from the Caddo Nation, Raven is an Oklahoma-born artist who pulls from centuries-long traditions of Caddo pottery and her own contemporary storytelling. Join Museum Educator guided tours of Raven Halfmoon’s exhibition “Flags of Our Mothers,” then stay to create coil pots with self-dry clay in the Studio. Tours will be offered at 1 pm and 3 pm.
