Ridgefield School of Dance presents The Nutcracker on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 pm, at Ridgefield High School

Ridgefield School of Dance Will Perform Holiday Classic Nov. 19

A timeless tradition ushers in the winter holiday season when the Ridgefield School of Dance presents The Nutcracker on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 pm, at Ridgefield High School. The Nutcracker is followed by Dreamscape, a performance by the Jazz Department. Tickets are on sale through theridgefieldschoolofdance.com or at the door.

The Nutcracker, a joyful holiday tradition for millions, features the beloved music of Tchaikovsky and this performance includes innovative and clever choreography by artistic director Jessica Boelts.

The ballet includes the youngest of dancers all the way up through seasoned pre-professional ballerinas. The dancers will take the audience on a journey from a Victorian holiday party with magical life-sized dolls to the young Clara’s dream where toy soldiers come alive and battle mice, the majestic rat queen and her entourage. A blizzard of snowflakes sweeps everyone off to the magical Land of the Sweets where they are welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy as well as Peppermints, Gumdrops and other delightful treats.

Dancing the part of Clara, a young girl discovering the magic of Christmas, is Gemma Molisani, a sixth grader at St. Gregory the Great in Danbury. In their final Nutcracker with The Ridgefield School of Dance are Ridgefield residents Isabella Raduazzo as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Phoebe Levitt as Dew Drop. New Canaan High School senior Audrey Carr dances as the Snow Queen;  and Olivia Basile, a senior at Joel Barlow High School in Redding, performs as the sassy Rat Queen and Chinese Tea. These seniors will also present the elegant Waltz of the Snowflakes with the rest of the PreProfessional Division.

“The Nutcracker is such an enchanting ballet filled with fantasy and we are excited to present it right before Thanksgiving to welcome the holidays,” said Alison Brown, director of The Ridgefield School of Dance. Following the Nutcracker will be the Jazz Department’s performance of Dreamscape, a presentation of original and holiday-themed dances.

The Ridgefield School of Dance is at 66 Grove Street, Ridgefield.
