The Ridgefield High School invites you to attend the Winter Concert on Wed. December 13, 2023. Our Music Department has worked diligently throughout the months of September, October, November, and December to prepare for this exciting event.
The Symphonic Orchestra will perform Mozart’s, The Marriage of Figaro: Overture, and Beethoven’s, Egmont Overture, and The First Carmen Suite First Movement, by Georges Bizet. Michael McNamara, the head of the music department, says “Our theme this year is New Beginnings. We are performing a lot of overtures, first movements of symphonies, and pieces that our orchestras have not played before in our history. This symbolizes a new era of our program. The last of our students from before the pandemic graduated last spring. We have taken the opportunity to reinvent and reapply ourselves, to connect more deeply with our audience, and to be more community minded. We are very proud of what we are about to show you!”
The Madrigals Choir will be performing two Pentatonix holiday tunes called Up on the Housetop and That’s Christmas to Me. This select choir has taken on a new identity as a pop a cappella group, and this year you will hear a student beatboxer accompanying them.
Finally, the Concert Choir will be performing a traditional Hebrew tune about Hanukkah called S’vivon as well as two movements from John Rutter’s Magnificat. The Magnificat movements will be a snapshot of the music they will sing during their upcoming Carnegie Hall performance with MidAmerica Productions on January 7, 2024. On January 7th, the RHS Concert Choir will sing alongside 6 other schools and full orchestra under the baton of John Rutter himself.
Lauren Verney-Fink, choir director, says “the Ridgefield High School Choir program has so much to be proud of. The choirs are thriving, and we are incredibly excited for our upcoming MidAmerica Productions performance at Carnegie Hall. We can’t wait to share with you all that we’ve accomplished already this year!”
The Ridgefield Music Department is looking forward to a fun filled night, full of music and festivities. Our hope is to spread our love of music to as many people as possible, and we greatly encourage you to attend our phenomenal concert.
