Back again for a sixth time is the Ridgefield Library’s annual LYL (Love Your Library) weekend – Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2, 2021.

This year’s LYL weekend will be a hybrid event.  People will have the opportunity to support everything they love at the Ridgefield Library by donating through an online giving system beginning at 12:00 am on Friday, October 1st through midnight on Saturday, October 2ndLibrary representatives will also be seen around town with members of the Ridgefield Boys and Girls Club handing out bookmarks, Library information, and collecting donations on Saturday, October 2.  Locations will be Early Bird Café, Steve’s Bagels, Ridgefield Historical Society and the front lawn of the Ridgefield Library. Donations received during LYL Weekend will support the Annual Operating Fund of the Ridgefield Library.

The weekend will open with For the Love of Books and Ridgefield: A Virtual Book Battle Featuring Author James Mustich’s 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die on Friday, October 1st at 7:00 pm via Zoom and will be co-sponsored by Books on the Common.  This year we are pleased to partner with ACT of CT, Founders Hall, Ridgefield Independent Film Festival, Ridgefield Playhouse and Ridgefield Theater Barn for this fun and unique fundraiser.  The extraordinary presenters, Daniel C. Levine, Grace Weber, Geoffrey Morris, Allison Stockel and Pamme Jones will each champion a book they love.  The audience will then vote on the most persuasive argument to choose a winning book.  Copies of all books, including Jim Mustich’s, will be available for purchase through Books on the Common.  Donations will be solicited towards the Book Battle through the end of the event and will be matched by Fairfield County BankThe winner gets bragging rights, a signed copy of 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die as well as half of all proceeds from the event (including ticket sales and donations) for the non-profit organization they are representing with the other half going to the Ridgefield Library. Be sure to put this fabulous virtual LYL event on your calendar and purchase your tickets today.

In addition to the Friday evening event, the Library will present two programs for families to enjoy on Saturday, October 2nd on the front lawn of the Library.  Danny Magic will perform a fun and engaging magic show at 11:00 am.  At 2:00 pm talented drummer Craig Norton, whose passion is to share the joy of community rhythm-making, will present his “Hands on Drumming” program which is participatory and multi-cultural in nature as he brings songs, stories and dance from across the globe together into one engaging drum circle experience for all ages.  Stay tuned for details.

Love Your Library (LYL) was conceived after the Library’s new facility opened to introduce Ridgefield townspeople to the wonders of the building and to highlight its potential to anticipate and meet the evolving needs of our community.  Even today, many who are not regular users of the Library remain unaware of the breadth of services and programming available to patrons of every age.  The Library is the place to discover, question, learn and connect, and is an essential partner with the Town of Ridgefield and its civic organizations in delivering the promise of this 21st Century.  To learn more about our programs and services, please visit www.ridgefieldlibrary.org.

The Library is organized as a 501 (C) 3 and must independently raise 30% of its annual operating budget in order to maintain the high level of services that patrons deserve and expect.  The Library counts on the proceeds from this weekend to help reach its fundraising goals.  If you have questions, please contact Laureen Bubniak at lmbubniak@ridgefieldlibrary.org.
