Updated Obituary for Tony Wilmot

Anthony Wilmot ~ former RHS Baseball Coach, Owner of Bar and Grill on 7 ~ Donations be made in Tony's memory to Holland Division, Ridgefield Little League

Anthony (Tony) Wilmot, of Sherman, CT and a longtime Ridgefield resident, died on Tuesday, February 18th from influenza related complications. He was 50 years old.

At the time of his death, Tony, along with his wife of ten years the former Kristina Traynor, owned and operated The Bar and Grill on 7. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his five year old daughter, Hayden, a twenty year old son from a previous marriage, Travis, as well as numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Travis is a senior at Marlboro College in Vermont.

Tony was born at Greenwich Hospital on December 16, 1963, the sixth and last child of Clifford and Jeremy Wilmot, both of whom predeceased him. Soon, he joined the rest of his family at their home on Lake Mamanasco where the family lived until some years later when they moved to 96 Main Street.

Tony exhibited many talents at an early age. He was an acclaimed tennis player and an ardent golfer, but it was when he discovered baseball that he'd found the activity at which he would excel and that would consume him for the rest of his life, first as a player, then a coach and always as a passionate promoter of fair play and healthy competition.

An early demonstration of his exceptional talent occurred when he pitched a perfect game during his years with Ridgefield Little League. He went on to captain the varsity baseball team at Ridgefield High School, and graduated from there in 1982. Later, he was captain of the NCAA Division I Horned Frogs baseball team of Texas Christian University, where he earned his BA in 1986. He served as Head Coach of the RHS varsity baseball team for six years with a 77–43 cumulative record over those years. He also served as Assistant Coach for the Western Connecticut State University Colonials. Tony contributed generously of his time and talent to the special needs kids that are the Holland Division of Ridgefield Little League as well.

The Ridgefield Old Timers Association honored Tony with their athletic award in 2010 for his proficiency on the RHS baseball teams during the 1980, 1981 and 1982 seasons.

Tony's family will receive visitors at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street in Ridgefield on Wednesday evening, February 26th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in St Mary Church, 55 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Thursday, February 27th at 10:15 a.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tony's memory to Holland Division, Ridgefield Little League, P.O. Box 287, Ridgefield, CT, 06877. For those who make a contribution, please reference Tony Wilmot in the memo field of your check.
