The Fall 2017 RVNA Nutrition Class Catalog: Because Learning Should Never End

This autumn, RVNA — embracing the back-to-school season — is hosting three multi-session nutrition education classes on the subjects of Diabetes, Cholesterol and Nutrition & Lifestyle for Weight Management. Each class includes education and discussion as well as hands-on strategies and techniques (including recipes and demonstrations), designed to support the creation and meeting of individual goals.

The professor for each of these classes is RVNA’s Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Educator, Meg Whitbeck, MS, RDN. “Fall is an excellent time to start afresh and learn new approaches and behaviors,” says Whitbeck. “These classes capitalize on the renewed motivation and vigor we feel in the autumn and prepare participants for the holiday season with new habits and enthusiasm.”

The RVNA fall nutrition course lineup includes:

Healthy Cooking for Diabetes: Participants will learn how to control diabetes with healthy meal planning, shopping, cooking and eating strategies to help balance intake and integrate new habits into daily routines. The course will also introduce low-cost and easy recipes aimed to address diabetes head on.
Tuesdays, September 12, 19 and 26, 12:00pm – 1:30 pm. $23 per class or $59 for all 3.

Six-Week Cholesterol Challenge: This interactive workshop kicks off with individual weigh-ins and cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure measurements. Then, the real education begins as participants learn targeted cooking techniques and healthy eating strategies to aid in lowering cholesterol. Food demonstrations and tastings are included at each class. The program finale is a final biometrics measurement to check progress and results.
Tuesdays, October 10 – November 14, 11:30am – 1:00pm. $195 for all 6 classes, including all biometric screenings, recipes and tastings.

Women’s Nutrition & Lifestyle for Weight Management – An eight-week group series for women. Learn how your body changes throughout your life and how to manage these changes to achieve and maintain optimal health. All participants will set personal goals, learn and discuss strategies, share support and encouragement, and be held accountable for the goals set and the changes desired. Women of all ages are welcome.
Tuesday evenings, October 3 – November 28 (no class on Halloween), 7:00pm – 8:30pm. $159 includes recipes, resources and tastings.

Advance registration and payment is required for all of the nutrition education classes. Whitbeck is also available for individual nutrition consultations at RVNA on 27 Governor Street.
