Tucker's Olympic Quest Ends In PyeongChang, Pride Lives On In Ridgefield

Tucker's Olympic Luge performance has come to a close in PyeongChang, but Ridgefield's support for our Olympian lives on - #TuckerFeverForever.

Heading into the third Luge run, Tucker was in 18th place. Last night, he wrote on Twitter, "The first two runs didn’t go quite how I wanted them to last night. Looking to make up some ground tonight." Unfortunately, he hit some major bumps in run three.

Brett West just announced on the Team Tucker Facebook Page that Tucker's performance third Luge run was his last in PyeongChang, leaving our Olympian down, but not broken.

On the bright side, fellow USA Luge Olympian (and Tucker's roommate in PyeongChang) Chris Mazdzer has made USA Olympic History. NBC Olympics (@NBCOlympics) just tweeted, "Chris @Mazdzer wins the first men’s singles luge medal in the U.S."

Brett wrote on Facebook:

As the men's race has concluded, Tucker's Olympic quest in PyeongChang has come to an end in a disappointing way. The new track here is very difficult (specifically curve 9) and it wrecked havoc on the men's field. None of the 3 medalists tonight were even in the top 10 in the overall world cup this season. Every favorite went down hard, including Tucker. Pam, Tatum and I spent some time tonight after the race with Tuck, he is down, but not broken. It's the agony of defeat, and certainly the drama of human athletic competition. I urge you all to watch tonight because Tucker's roommate Chris Mazdzer made USA History today. We are beyond thrilled for Chris. I won't spoil the result, but it is the lead story from all competitions today in PyeongChang. Congrats Chris and his family, and thank you, thank you, thank you all for the support. Team Tucker literally made news this year, because of all of you. We are so humbled by the support and love. Beijing Olympics are only 4 years away!

Support and pride for Tucker lives on in Ridgefield! If you haven't noticed, Team Tucker t-shirts have taken social media by storm, even NBC news has gotten wind of this wearable support for our American Olympian.

Tucker's dad, Brett wrote on the Team Tucker Facebook Page, "Pam and I were interviewed about the Team Tucker T-shirts! Apparently, it’s unusual. It will air either on Today Show or NBC News with Lestor Holt. Keep an eye out, and save the T’s, they are about to be famous!" See photo (courtesy of Brett) of the West family being interviewed by NBC News.

Former Olympian and Ridgefielder, Leslie Krichko is the powerhouse behind our town's support for Tucker (think: flags, lawn signs) and we thank her for helping to create Tucker Fever in Ridgefield!
