Ridgefield Public Schools will not hold school on Memorial Day, requests waiver for 180 day requirement from State BOE

A Statement from the Ridgefield Public Schools

Due to school closures on May 16th and 17th, Ridgefield Public Schools has 179 days of classes scheduled for the 2017-18 school year, with the last day of school on June 29th; the annual state requirement is 180 days. Although the state guidelines include Memorial Day as a potential storm make-up day, RPS has determined it is not a viable option due to many challenges, including but not limited to: staffing issues, transportation and road closures, security, and local events. Therefore, all schools will be closed on Memorial Day.

Ridgefield Public Schools has formally requested that the State Board of Education grant a waiver for the 180-day requirement for the 2017-18 school year. We anticipate the state will provide a decision at their June 7th meeting.
