Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society Renamed The Joseph Consentino Film Society, November 28 Screening Planned

The Ridgefield Playhouse’s Joseph Consentino Film Society presents “Love, Gilda” & “Blazing Saddles” with Legendary Q&A’s

The Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society has been renamed the Joseph Consentino Film Society in honor of Filmmaker and film society Founder/Artistic Director Joseph Consentino, who passed away earlier this year. The announcement was made by Allison Stockel, Executive Director of The Ridgefield Playhouse. “Joe’s passion was film and talking with those who made them, which is why he started the film society in 2004,” says Allison Stockel. “Over the past 14 years, thanks to Joe and his committee, we have hosted films and Q&A’s with everyone from Ron Howard and Tim Robbins to Kevin Bacon, Harvey Keitel and Chazz Palminteri, to name a few; more than 90 films followed by discussions with filmmakers, actors, set designers and more.”

Continuing with the 2018-2019 film society season, two new films with Q&A’s have been booked. Love, Gilda – the documentary that reflects on Gilda Radner’s life and career in her own words, weaving together her recently discovered audiotapes and interviews with friends -- on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:30pm.  A Q&A with Executive Producers Robin and Alan Zweibel, the writer/producer best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live,” “Billy Crystal: 700 Sundays,”  “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show,” and more, will follow after the screening, which will be hosted by Ira Joe Fisher and WLAD’s Bart Busterna. A Wine and Cheese Meet and Greet reception ticket upgrade is available.

Next, the Joseph Consentino Film Society will present Blazing Saddles on February 22, 2019 at 7:30pm with a Q&A with star Burton Gilliam, hosted by WLAD’s Bart Busterna. This hilarious 1974 cult film that spoofs Westerns was directed by Mel Brooks and co-written by Richard Pryor. In addition to Gilliam, who played Lyle, the film features Cleavon Little and an all-star cast including Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman and Madeline Kahn. One of the great character actors of our time, Burton Gilliam has been in more than 90 films, including Back to the Future Part IIIPaper MoonThe Ransom of Red Chief, and many more.
