Ridgefield Baseball Field Fire Damage: Should Tax Payers Foot the Bill?

First Selectman Rudy Marconi and fellow Board of Selectman members say "No!" That's why they are asking that anyone involved in last weekend's incident at Governor Park field contact First Selectman Marconi via email selectman@ridgefieldct.org or phone call 203-431-2700.

Marconi said that the cleanup and restoration of the Governor Park Baseball Field will cost approximately $45,000. Thirty thousand in costs have already been incurred due to excavation, removal and disposal of contaminated soil.

The incident took place last weekend when a Ridgefield High School baseball game at Governor Park was delayed due to weather conditions, and 24 gallons of gasoline was poured on a portion of the field in an attempt to "dry the field quicker".  Thankfully, no one was injured.

Marconi says, "Do your Town a favor and identify yourselves."  You can call Rudy at 203-431-2700.

The Ridgefield Police continue to investigate this incident.
