Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra Hosts Open Rehearsal on Thursday

The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra (WCYO), based in Ridgefield, CT, will be hosting an open rehearsal this Thursday, April 25th at Scotts Ridge Middle School in Ridgefield, CT.

Student musicians (currently in grades 4-11) and their parents are invited to attend the rehearsal and learn more about what the WCYO has to offer young musicians in Ridgefield and the surrounding communities in Connecticut and New York.

The String Ensemble, rehearsing from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, is an intermediate string orchestra for advancing middle and early high school musicians. The Wind Ensemble, rehearsing from 7:00 PM to 8:45 PM, is comprised of woodwind, brass and percussion advancing middle and high school musicians. The Symphony Orchestra, rehearsing from 6:00 PM to 8:45 PM, is a full symphonic orchestra made up of advanced string, woodwind, brass and percussion musicians ranging in age from 13 to 18. Visiting musicians may bring their instruments to the open rehearsal and play side-by-side with WCYO musicians or simply sit-in to observe and listen.

Under the guidance of encouraging professional musicians and conductors, the WCYO musician develops artistry, technique and a greater understanding of music while working with other youth musicians from over 20 towns. WCYO ensembles rehearse weekly on Thursday evenings during the school year and perform three concerts per year. Additional opportunities include participation in chamber ensembles, an annual musical retreat, workshops and masterclasses. As advocates for music education, the WCYO requires all members to participate in their school music program if one is offered and to take private music lessons. The WCYO is also available to students in the home-schooled community that take music lessons and are interested in an ensemble experience.

Auditions for the 2019-20 season will be held June 5th, 6th and 7th, also at Scotts Ridge Middle School (located at 750 North Salem Road, Ridgefield, CT). Audition requirements are available on the WCYO website at www.wcyto.org or call 203-894-8786 for additional information.
