Ridgefield's American Pride Shining as Bright as the Sun

Old Glory Waving In Downtown Ridge for the 2019 Memorial Day Parade

Flags were waving and thousands of enthusiastic and patriotic residents lined the streets of downtown Ridgefield for our town's spectacular parade and to support those to gave their lives in service for the United States of America.

The weather was spectacular for Ridgefield's glorious parade. Organized and run by Ridgefield's American Legion Post 78, the annual Memorial Day Parade captures our quintessential American small town - a tight-knit community standing and marching in solidarity and giving thanks for our freedom.

Leading the parade this year was Grand Marshal Wally Goodman. Government representatives marching included Ridgefield Selectmen, First Selectman, Rudy Marconi, State Senator Will Haskell, Governor Ned Lamont, Congressman Jim Himes, and Ridgefield’s State Representative John Frey.

Big Daddy Sean McKee was the 2019 Memorial Day emcee and DJ - he did an outstanding job putting a spotlight on the local businesses and nonprofits that make Ridgefield the robust community it is.

The well-loved parade featured the traditional participants including the boy and girl scouts, Little League, SCOR, the Ridgefield High School Marching Band, the Women’s Club,  Ridgefield Rotary Club, Ridgefield Lions Club, Ridgefield Library, The Rotary Club, The Keeler Tavern, the Prospector Theater, The Boys & Girls Club, RIFF (Ridgefield Independent Film Festival), Landmark and Ridgefield Academy, and Saint Mary School (to name a few!) New this year was Golden's Bridge Hounds (complete with tail-wagging hounds) and Rising Starr Horse Rescue, who marched with a beautiful rescue horse (clad with red, white and blue horseshoes).

About half-way through the parade, all eyes turned toward the blue sky to see the C-30 cargo planes overhead flown by the Air National Guard, a beloved parade highlight.

The parade concluded with a ceremony in Ballard Park to honor and remember the lives lost for our nation.

Each year the parade continues to draw Ridgefield’s community together to celebrate the honorary veterans and their services.

On behalf of the HamletHub team, thank you to those who serve and have served our country.
