Keep it LOCAL on Boxing Day!

Didn't get what you wanted from Santa? Today, Boxing Day, December 26,  is yet another reason to support your local merchants. In our travels down Main Street, we noticed that downtown Ridgefield was busy with shoppers and strollers. Always a happy sight.

Originally known as the Feast of St. Stephen (after the first Christian martyr), Boxing Day had its rooted in England where it served as a holiday for members of the merchant class to give boxes containing food and fruit, clothing and money to those less fortunate. Many throughout the world keep the origin of Boxing Day alive by donating time and money to fill food banks and donate to the poor. It remains a holiday in the UK, Canada and other Commonwealth nations.

You don't have to venture too far for the best shopping around - head to your downtown merchants and keep it LOCAL.
