UPDATE: Remote Learning for ERMS and SRMS Tomorrow: Ridgefield Public Schools Reports Additional Cases of COVID-19

UPDATE: we have just learned that this evening, the District has reported an additional COVID-19 case in the middle school. JUST IN: SRMS and ERMS will have a remoting learning day tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 26 so that the District can perform contact tracing and confer with the Department of Health regarding trends in the Ridgefield community.

This morning, Sunday, Oct. 25, Ridgefield Public School District reported that a member of the SRMS community tested positive for COVID-19. This individual was in the SRMS building and considered to have been potentially infectious on Monday 10/19 and Tuesday 10/20.

"We have consulted with RPS Medical Advisor, Dr. James Ahern, and Town of Ridgefield Health Department Director, Mr. Ed Briggs, and have begun the process of contact tracing. We will be making calls to students and teachers who will be required to quarantine until November 2nd and may return to in-person learning on November 3rd," said Aaron Crook, COVID-19 Health and Safety Compliance Liaison.

Crook said that they have identified 58 students and 9 teachers who were in a classroom or on the bus with the SRMS community member that tested positive for COVID-19.

In addition, Crook says that this afternoon, the District was notified that another ERMS community member tested positive for COVID-19 today. This individual was not in the ERMS building on Thursday 10/22 or Friday 10/23.

"We have consulted with Town of Ridgefield Health Department Director, Mr. Ed Briggs, about this new case. According to CDC and Connecticut Department of Public Health guidelines for contact tracing, there was not a significant exposure from this individual to the members of the ERMS community, and no contact tracing needs to take place. At this time, we do not know of a connection between the two ERMS cases," said Crook.

RPS is closely monitoring the situation together with the Ridgefield Department of Health.

"We urge the community to continue strictly following mitigation practices of mask-wearing, hand washing and social distancing," said Crook.
