Ancona's Life in a Bottle: Kyle Sips and Chats About 2018 King's Carey Semillon

Kyle's notes read:

This is one of those wines that gives you something new every time you take a sip. It starts with yellow apple, Asian pear, and oily citrus peel. Then come the white flowers and honeysuckle. Next up, button mushrooms and crushed stone. The palate continues in the same style, starting lively and fresh, then transitioning gently to creamy and just slightly round, finishing with a pinch of sea salt. This wine begs for fish; I can close my eyes and taste sole with citrus beurre blanc. Soft cheese, too; something not too salty would be just right. At 12% alcohol, it plays the parts of both aperitif and entree equally well.

Winemaker of Liquid Farms (an Ancona's staple, and producer of 5 separate Ancona's Cuvees), James is known for producing straightforward yet remarkably nuanced wines that celebrate terroir.

His Vogelzang Vineyard Semillon is no exception. Lively and bold, creamy and round, stony and saline, his is a gorgeous iteration of this lesser-known white grape.
