Ridgefield celebrates July 4th: ring your bells, head to Keeler Tavern for official reading of the Declaration of Independence

Today, we celebrate the birth of American independence. The Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

Celebrate July 4th at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center (KTM&HC)!

This is a beloved annual community event is a wonderful way to celebrate Independence Day and commemorate the opening day of the museum on July 4, 1966.

The historic tavern museum will be open for station tours, we'll have an official reading of the Declaration of Independence, and there will be fun family games and activities - including a dunk tank! - and slices of watermelon for visitors of all ages.

All programming is FREE and open to the public!

At 2 p.m., KTM&HC will join organizations and individuals throughout Ridgefield, the state, and the nation in a coordinated bell ringing. Following the bell ringing, there will be a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence, a reminder of the words and the promise that shaped our country.

In the words of Lee Greenwood:

I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
