Ridgefield Main Street Project Important News!

After nearly eight months of work, you can now walk down Main Street and experience a selection of new trees and plantings, new sidewalks, and a repaved street with dedicated turning lanes at each intersection. In addition, updated traffic lights with improved signalization will be installed soon.

The entrance and exit at the CVS parking lot are open! They were redesigned as part of the improved flow of Main Street traffic. In addition, there are now 14 new parking spaces. There is a plan to resurface the entire CVS parking lot, along with installing electric chargers and new trees, during Spring 2023.

The beauty of Ridgefield’s Main Street was carefully considered during the landscape decisions. Jane Didona, a Landscape Architect, was retained by the Town of Ridgefield and worked closely with the CT DOT and residents to create a comprehensive landscape plan. The plantings are comprised of pollinator-friendly native and nativar plants that will connect the pollinator pathway gardens established at the Library and Keeler Tavern. Along with the mature trees along Main Street, the new trees will create a diverse canopy of flowers in the spring, shade in the summer, and color in the fall, as well as more opportunities for holiday lights. The shrubs and perennials are also pollinator-friendly natives that can withstand the unique conditions of a streetscape and provide a four-season display of flowers, vegetation, berries, and fall color. “The result is a pathway that creates a thriving environment for our pollinator friends and our community,” notes Jane Didona.

“Our holiday festivities and shopping will be enhanced due to the new landscaping and updates to Main Street. I’m pleased this project is near completion and grateful for the strong collaboration among our merchants, the DOT, and contractors to enhance our Main Street,” stated Rudy Marconi, First Selectman.
