2023 Memorial Day Parade in Ridgefield shines brighter than the sun!

Today's Memorial Day Parade was magnificent! More than sixty groups proudly marched or rode on floats bedecked with the Amercian Flag including town organizations, clubs, and sports teams. What's more, the Air Force treated us to a flyover!

The beloved event that brings the community together in the name of the many who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom - here at home and throughout the country, was spectacular and HamletHub would like to give a shout-out to the great George Besse, Commander American Legion Post 78, who was at the helm of today's parade!

Ridgefield's 2023 Grand Marshal was Anne Fitzgerald. Anne served four years in the Navy and obtained the rank of Lieutenant. During her four years as a Navy Nurse, Anne served at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Subic Bay Hospital in the Philippines, and Bethesda Naval Hospital.

The patriotism continued in Ballard Park where there will be short speeches, patriotic music and remarks. Powerful were the words spoken by Besse who said in part:

Remembering those who have passed is only half of the task that is before us today. We must also carry their love, honor, and duty forward to future generations. Our children and grandchildren must know who they were, what they did, and why they did it. To do anything less will be a disservice to their sacrifice and their memories.

What a great day to be an American and a Ridgefielder!
