SBA CT kicks off Shop Small campaign in Ridgefield

In a collaborative effort led by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Connecticut District Office, the "Shop Small" campaign will be launched on Tuesday, November 21st. The event, featuring prominent figures including U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, and local dignitaries, aims to highlight the significance of supporting small businesses in communities.

Catherine Marx, SBA Connecticut District Director, emphasizes the importance of shopping small during the holiday season, stating, "Every purchase made from a small business is not just a transaction; it’s an investment in the livelihoods of your friends and neighbors."

The initiative, officially cosponsored by the SBA since 2011, aligns with Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to bolstering local small businesses. According to American Express, last year's Small Business Saturday saw a record high of estimated total reported spending, reaching $17.9 billion among U.S. consumers who patronized independent retailers and restaurants.

The Shop Small press event is scheduled to commence at 11:15 am on Tuesday, Nov. 21st, starting at Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shoppe, 409 Main Street, Ridgefield. A subsequent walking tour will include visits to various local establishments such as Planet Pizza, Queen B Coffee Company, George Amatuzzi Optometrist, Ridgefield Running Company, the Toy Chest, Baja Cocina, Botanika Café, and Books on the Common.

For those seeking additional information, Sheri Cote can be contacted at Sheri.Cote@sba.gov or 202-445-6709. This campaign encourages everyone to play a part in supporting the heartbeat of their communities by shopping small this holiday season.
