Ives Concert Park to host back-to-back events on Sept. 13 & 14

Ives Concert Park has partnered with Townsquare Media to offer back-to-back events on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14, at the outdoor venue located on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.

First up is “Connecticut on Tap,” from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. At the event, attendees will be able to sample more than 120 craft beers from the best American craft breweries. VIP tickets are $55 and general admission tickets are $35 when bought in advance. Day-of general admission tickets will be $45. A VIP ticket will include a catered meal and access to extremely rare beers. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to attend. On Sunday, Sept. 14, the venue will host “Pickin’ at the Ives” as part of the Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts and Family Series. The first “Pickin’ at the Ives Bluegrass Festival will feature Greensky Bluegrass, Cabinet and local artists Cricket Tell the Weather, The Korey Brodsky Band and The Wool Hats String Band. Grammy Award-winner and multi-instrumentalist Stacy Phillips will conduct two dobro and fiddle workshops between sets. The event will be from 2 to 10 p.m. Tickets are available at http://ivesbluegrass.com/ and will be available at the gate. Pre-sale general admission tickets are $25 and day-of tickets will be $35. WCSU students can attend for $15 at the gate. Children under the age of 6 will be admitted free. On Sunday, Sept. 21, a 5K Fun-Run will be held on the Ives Concert Park and WCSU Westside campus grounds to raise money for cultural enrichment programs and to keep the arts alive for all. Ives Concert Park will wrap up its 2014 summer season with a performance by the Ives Festival Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Fernando Jimenez at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, in the Concert Hall of the new Visual and Performing Arts Center on the WCSU Westside campus. The program will feature light classical music, including Strauss’ “Overture from Die Fledermaus,” Gershwin’s “An American in Paris,” Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2,” and more. The performance will be free and seating in the Concert Hall will be first-come, first-served.
