As a child, I dreamed of climbing inside of the pages of Tasha Tudor’s “A Time To Keep” and living inside the book. It was the most magical story of childhood, in which Tudor shared the beauty of summer days, making candles, putting on plays with dolls at the holidays, and watching a birthday cake float down the river. I was drawn to this story and loved how Tudor made even the most unexciting chore seem special. I grew up wanting a Corgi because I loved seeing all the corgis in Tudor’s illustrations. As an adult, I hope to create traditions and memories as special to my family as the ones I saw in Tudor’s book.
When I moved to Connecticut, I felt an immediate connection to the area (much like the one I felt to Tasha Tudor’s illustrations while growing up). I had no idea, at the time, that Tudor spent much of her childhood in this area. I wonder if she walked any of the trails I love, sat by the same lake and took in its beauty, and drew inspiration from them. Perhaps, some of those magical places I saw in Tudor’s books are drawn from this tiny corner of the world.
If you are like me, and wanted to live inside a Tasha Tudor illustration or book, then you will be as excited as I am about this ... Tasha Tudor’s mother’s house in Redding is up for sale.
