Patrick Walsh wants to serve the communities of Ridgefield, Redding, Newtown and Bethel as Probate Judge. Why? For one thing, he is passionate about community and about people. “The Probate Court is truly the People’s Court there are no metal detectors or security. If someone needs help, they simply walk in the door and Court stands ready to assist,” explains Walsh.
Ridgefield resident and attorney Patrick Walsh must first win the primary on August 9 to have an opportunity to be on the ballot in November. All registered Republicans are eligible to vote in the primary.
We sat down with Walsh to learn a bit more about his career, family, and why the position of Probate Judge is important to him.
Why do you want to be Probate Judge?
To help others. The Judge of Probate is essential to our communities. The job requires knowledge of many areas of the practice of law. I have extensive experience managing Probate matters and representing individuals in various capacities including conserved individuals, conservators, name change applicants, guardian proceedings, parental termination proceedings, and fiduciaries. My 20 plus years of experience representing individuals in Probate Courts throughout the State will serve Newtown, Ridgefield, Redding and Bethel well and makes me uniquely qualified to be your next Judge of Probate.
If elected, you will serve the communities of Ridgefield, Redding, Newtown and Bethel. Is there a specific characteristic (or characteristics) of these communities that pulls at your heartstrings or means something special to you?
The four communities, while all separate and distinct, all share a common bond and it’s the true essence of a community – helping neighbors and strangers in their time of need. I have knocked on countless doors throughout this campaign in Ridgefield, Redding, Newtown and Bethel and have had such a warm welcome and have come to know that the citizens of each town take great pride in their community. I can only hope my judgeship will enhance their sense of pride knowing the Probate Court will be there to assist them and others in their time of need. I have told many that no matter when they knock on the Probate Court door – I will be there to help.
You are one of seven children, dad to four young kids, and a husband to Kathleen. Tell me about how your family life impacts your approach to the law and your candidacy for Probate Judge.
My family impacts every facet of how I practice law and why I want to be Probate Judge. I understand and appreciate the importance of family. I bring with me not just my legal background, but my role as a father, a husband, a son and a brother.
What are you most proud in your two decades of practicing law?
I am most proud to have had the opportunity to represent and assist individuals at the time they most desperately needed help.
Do you have any pets?
Charlie, (short for Charlotte) Sally and Riley are our guinea pigs. Peaches and Gronk are brother and sister kittens we adopted last fall, although they aren’t always called by their names [by my kids]! Sometimes Peaches is called Mrs. Kitty, or Boo. Gronk sometimes gets called Gronk, Gronkatonk, Gronkzilla, Gronk-a-doodle-doo & Gronkcatski , or Mr. Kitty!
Favorite community event?
That is an easy question - the Memorial Day Parade. Aside from my attending college in Boston and Law School in California, I don’t think I have missed more than six parades.
Favorite sport to watch? To play?
Hockey!
