Brooke Blake To Light Up Downtown Ridgefield

The community has been rallying for Brooke Blake, a nine-year-old 4th grader at Barlow Mountain Elementary School who was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of brain cancer in December 2015.

This Friday, November 24, Brooke will flip the ceremonial switch to light up the downtown area and kick off the holiday season in Ridgefield.

"She is a brave young girl - it will be nice to give her some recognition for all that she has been going through," says First Selectman, Rudy Marconi. "There's nothing more joyous than lighting up the town," Marconi adds.

Marconi confirmed that Santa will arrive by fire truck at about 6:30 and will be transported via a festively decorated cart to the Lounsbury House where he and Mrs. Claus will greet children.

The event will be emceed by Ira Joe Fisher and feature musical performances by Ridgefield High School Choir and the Nightingales.

Plan on arriving in the downtown area no later than 6:00 pm so you can enjoy festivities and prior to the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.
