The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra held its 2018 Concerto Competition on Tuesday, February 6th at Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Ridgefield.

Monika Dziubelski won the competition and will perform Concertino for Flute in D major by Cécile Chaminade with the WCYO Symphony Orchestra at the June 3rd concert at the Western Connecticut State University Visual and Performing Arts Center.

"Congratulations to Monika and also to all the concerto competition participants on their hard work and performance," said WCYO Board President Laurie Kenagy. "The judges were extremely complimentary of the overall high level of playing, artistry, and commitment to preparation by all the musicians."

Eleven students from across Fairfield and Westchester counties took part in this year's competition, playing concertos on flute, bassoon, cello, violin, clarinet and French horn.

The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra's Symphony Orchestra, String Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble currently consist of nearly one hundred auditioned musicians.
