The Friday before Memorial Day is National Poppy Day! Volunteers are needed for the American Legion's annual grave decorating.
The poppy has come to symbolize the men and women who have fought, and continue to fight, for our country. The poppy became known for this after the publication of the poem "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD. He wrote the poem while serving on the front in WWI to honor those killed in battle.
This year, National Poppy Day is Friday, May 25. Please wear your poppy to honor our fallen and support our heroes who have served and are currently serving this great nation.
Volunteers are needed for the American Legion's annual grave decorating on National Poppy Day.
Those interested should report to Legion Hall at 71 North Salem Rd at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 25 to help place flags on the graves of Veterans.
