Purple Heart Recipient, Richard W. Jaccarino, 93, of Ridgefield, has Died

Richard W. Jaccarino, 93, of Ridgefield, formerly of Redding, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria T. Jaccarino. Richard was born May 1, 1925 to the late Richard and Kathryn (Jordan) Jaccarino.
 
Richard proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. On his 18th birthday, he cut school and registered for the draft,  signing a voluntary induction slip which put him into the next group processed for induction. He never regretted it. He was a Purple Heart recipient and twice awarded the Bronze Star for valor. After the war, he had an apprenticeship at the family watch case business where he sharpened his attention to detail. His contributions to the military didn’t end as he was part of the engineering team that designed and planned the turbine engines for Avco Lycoming.
 
After retirement, he had a passion for golf, the Yankees, photography and he found the most joy spending time with his grandchildren.
 
Richard is survived by his sons Stephen (Debbie), Tim (Hilda), Ricky, Peter and a sister Lorraine Gfeller. In addition he is survived by his stepchildren Joseph DeBartolo, Debra (Peter) Hayes, Jodi (Dennis) O’Connell, and Mary DeBartolo, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces nephews and loved family members.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 15th at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Church, 169 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding. Interment with US Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich. There will be no calling hours. Kane Funeral Home, Ridgefield is handling funeral arrangements.
