Wiffle Ball Heats Up Ridgefield! Boys & Girls Club Take On Police!

The Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield was full of police activity on this very steamy afternoon. Not to worry, it was all fun and games (Wiffle ball to be exact).

Boys & Girls Club staff and summer camp counselors played their annual friendly (but competitive) game of Wiffle ball against the Ridgefield Police Department. With home field advantage, The Boys and Girls Club had a strong start but ultimately fell to the police. They won, however, in the arena of most enthusiastic fans! Club members lined the Wiffle ball court and cheers and chants could be heard way beyond the boundaries of the Club!

Hitting it out of the park (twice) was Boys & Girls Club team member Tim Cousins, who also served as pitcher. After the first inning, the Club was up a few runs and feeling optimistic!

Home runs in inning four and five by Ridgefield Police officers put the Department on offense. Full disclosure: they introduced a larger (and fatter) bat after the second inning. Would they have continued to gain the lead without that fat bat?

After five hot innings, the two teams called it a (great summer) day. The final score was Ridgefield Police 10,  Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield 8. You can catch our Facebook live stream of the event here.

Thank you to the Ridgefield Police officers, many of whom came in on their day off or early for their evening shift, to participate in this annual game! This was community-policing at its finest!

Fun Wiffle Ball Fact: Wiffle Ball was created in the summer of 1953 in Fairfield, Connecticut!
