Ridgefield High School Grad Awarded for Women In Tech Advocacy

Omika Suryawanshi, a 2018 graduate of Ridgefield High School, was recently awarded the 2018 Coca-Cola Scholarship for her work with Leap Into Technology, an initiative which began at the Ridgefield Library and has since spread town, state, and national borders.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation "exists to bring better to the world through investment in exceptional high school students who are dedicated to leadership, service, and action that positively affects others." Through her work with Leap Into Technology, Omika has not only been dedicated to leadership, service, and action, but has impacted and inspired thousands of girls worldwide. By bringing mentors into local areas to discuss the applications of technology outside of programming, Omika aims to ensure girls embrace technology, regardless of whether or not computer science is where their career aspirations are.

She has previously been honored by institutions ranging from the White House to the National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT).

Each of the 150 Coca-Cola Scholars each received a $20,000 college scholarship and joined a family of alumni who are leading positive change in their communities and around the world, from an applicant pool of 150,000+ applicants.
