Services planned for Owen M. Gleeson, 78, of Ridgefield

Owen M. Gleeson, 78, of Ridgefield, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Judith (Mecker) Gleeson.
 
Mr. Gleeson was born on October 15, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri; a son of the late Edward and Fannie (Emmerich) Gleeson. His early years were spent in Springfield, MA, Lockport, NY, and Boston, MA. The family returned to St. Louis, MO in 1951.
 
Mr. Gleeson attended St. Louis University High School and St. Louis University, earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Science (Research) degree in Mathematics. After teaching at various universities and colleges, he earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1971. In 1972 Mr. Gleeson joined the United States Fidelity and Guarantee (USF&G) in Baltimore, MD as an Actuarial Assistant.
 
Mr. Gleeson earned the ACAS and FCAS designations from the Casualty Actuarial Society in 1975 and 1978, respectively.  In 1984, Mr. Gleeson joined General Reinsurance, at which time he and his family moved to Ridgefield.
 
In 1987 Mr. Gleeson founded Financial Analysis and Control Systems (FACS, Inc) to develop and market a model of property/casualty companies operating under the Tax Reform Act of 1986. The model found acceptance by many companies, including three of the five largest property/casualty companies in the United States.
 
From 1994 to 1996, Mr. Gleeson served as the Chief Actuary of TIG Reinsurance Company. From 1996 until his death, he was a consulting actuary and senior director for MBA Actuaries.
 
Mr. Gleeson was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, where he ushered for many years. His interests included opera and Baroque music, fishing, his Irish and German heritage, the St. Louis Cardinals, and Duke University basketball
 
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy. Mr. Gleeson is also survived by his son, Michael Gleeson and his wife, Andreea. In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Gleeson is survived by a sister, Susan Stein.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:15 AM at St. Mary’s Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield. Friends will be received on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
