Sharron McCleery Lavatori, 61, Longtime Resident, Special Education Teacher, Community Volunteer

Sharron McCleery Lavatori, 61, of Ridgefield, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018. She was the loving wife of Mr. Stephen Lavatori.

Sharron was born in Liverpool, England on January 9, 1957; a daughter of the late Derek and Iris (Armstrong) McCleery. She moved to Ridgefield with her family in 1968. She graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1975 and then earned her degree in Special Education from Southern CT State University.

Sharron was a Special Education Teacher for over 30 years, teaching in the Region 14 School District in Woodbury, CT; at Nonnewaug High School and Mitchell Elementary School. She continued her education, later earning a Master’s and Ph.D. in Special Education.

A Ridgefield resident for over 50 years, Sharron was an active and involved member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. She volunteered at the St. Stephen’s Nutmeg Festival and was also a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and often offered the Prayers of the People at Sunday services. Sharron also volunteered with the Ridgefield Playhouse, Danbury Women’s Center, CT Mobile Food Bank, Ridgefield Social Services, Renewal House, Amos House, Dorothy Day Hospitality House and the United Way. She was also the past director of the Ridgefield Mobile Food Pantry.

Sharron is survived by her husband of 36 years, Stephen and their son, Jeffrey. Sharron is also survived by a brother, Ian Michael McCleery and two sisters; Siobhan Santini and her husband, Chris and Stephanie Heering and her husband, Robb. In addition, she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and close friends.

Funeral services will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 1:00 PM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church; 351 Main Street, Ridgefield with a reception to follow at North Hall. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, The Ridgefield Playhouse, Connecticut Special Olympics or The Connecticut Food Bank. Kane Funeral Home, Ridgefield is in care of funeral arrangements.
