Ridgefielders bring sunshine to a rainy day and Walk for Mike

About two dozen Ridgefield residents gathered in downtown Ridgefield today and brought sunshine and warmth to this gloomy, chilly Sunday to participate in the 2nd Annual "Walk for Mike" in memory of beloved Ridgefielder Mike Nardone, affectionately known as "Walking Mike".

Nardone, who passed away on Thanksgiving day in 2017, walked the streets of downtown Ridgefield (rain or shine), donning a smile and a reflective vest. Always quick with good tidings, and never wearing headphones,  today's walkers were charged with "being like Mike".  "Make a new friend," said organizer, Debbie Haughney.  "Mike believed in friendship, kindness, and goodness," she said.

In the spirit of giving (one of Mike's many loving attributes), attendees brought canned goods for the Ridgefield Food Pantry and purchased baked goods, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Pantry.

Thank you to all who grabbed your umbrellas and rain gear this morning and Walked for Mike! And, a huge thank you to Debbie Haughney for keeping Mike's spirit alive in the hometown he loved so much.
