Ridgefield Public Schools Elect New Superintendent

The Ridgefield Board of Education has unanimously elected Dr. William Collins to be the new superintendent. Dr. Collins will be taking over the position previously held by Interim Superintendent Dr. JeanAnn Paddyfote.

Dr. Collins quickly rose to the top of the Ridgefield Board of Education’s list of finalists for the position, because of his credentials, the skills and attributes he exhibited in the interview process and positive feedback from previous colleagues. His teaching career began in 1985 where he was a high school teacher. He then moved on to become a principal before becoming Newington’s Superintendent for nine years.

Those who previously worked for and with Dr. Collins say that he is a transformational leader who makes students the main focus of his work. He strives to identify student needs and addresses them through the development of a plan. Dr. Collins then guides successful implementation of that plan with clear communication to not only teachers and administrators but the community as well.

Dr. Collins is familiar with Ridgefield High School in that he was on the visiting team that came to RHS during its last NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation cycle. He believes in researching and understanding the history of the schools and community in which he serves, and developing strong ties within it.

With his background in education, leadership, integrity and his prior work with RHS, Dr. Collins will be an invaluable addition to our community. The Ridgefield Board of Education believes that Dr. Collins is the right leader to move forward the strategic plan of the district, with a strong commitment to the RPS
