Ridgefield High School Ski Teams Have Edge, Boys Unbeaten, Girls Eye State Open Championship

RHS Boys Undefeated

The Ridgefield High School boys ski team is 23 and 0, undefeated, beating rivals Greenwich, Fairfield, Fairfield Prep and second place Wilton - the stellar skiers are on the verge of the Connecticut regular season championship!

The Wilton victory, without key racer Bornstein, who was sick that day, was by one-tenth of one second over twelve runs.  Joey Pastore had one of his best days, picking up the slack for the missing Bornstein, who is consistently a top ten racer.

The boys are led by Jake Robinson, Alex Bornstein, Declan McNamara, Eliot Hynes and Senior Captains Joey Pastore, Luke Faillaci and Chris Hagele.

Robinson, Bornstein, McNamara and Pastore all made the top 30 in the state in the individual competition, and Robinson and McNamara made the top 12, with McNamara finishing first in the state for all racers.

The boys seek to clinch a regular season undefeated title on Senior Night this Thursday.  Then on March 5, they seek to dethrone Fairfield Prep the winner of the last two to state titles.

RHS Girls Contenders for State Opens

The girl's team was undefeated until the last race and remains a strong contender for the state open championships.

Led by Riley Peters, Julia Bragg, Lauren Tsai, Isabel Redrup and senior Captains Sierra Gunderson, Arden Grant and Lexi Schibli they remain the favorite to win the state open. Grace Bucci, Echo Nielsen and Shea Coughlin also make significant scoring contributions.

In prior years, women's State Championships have been won by Fairfield, which combines both public high schools for ski team, making them a large formidable team.

Good luck to the boys on their quest for a record-breaking undefeated season and to both boys and girls as they head into the state championship on March 5 at Mt. Southington.
