Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT KishandScarbrough Real Estate!

Three questions with JoAnn Kish and Jane Scarbrough.

Why did you start your business?

We believe in Ridgefield and in the value of living in this wonderful town! We have been partners in real estate since 2001 when we decided to team up and offer the benefits of our brand, “The Team Advantage.”  We found that by combining our individual strengths and fields of expertise, we could offer our clients a higher level of service and performance. JoAnn, a third-generation Ridgefield native, brings a unique community perspective to our clients. Her background in communications, interior design and relocation management complements Jane’s background in business administration and economics.  We are both “people persons,” so the interpersonal nature of real estate appeals to us as well.

Best selling product or service?

Our team! As a residential real estate team, we are 100% invested in our business and in providing hands on service to both buyers and to sellers. We position our sellers with innovative marketing programs and customized plans of action.  Buyers receive twice the attention and twice the representation in their search for the perfect home.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business? Can you name them?

We use a myriad of local professional businesses to support ours, such as attorneys William Harrison and George Cohan; inspectors Chris Luffman (Gold Shield Inspections) and Brian Johnson (Huntington Home Inspection); and local mortgage brokers, Patty Yaffa (Chase) and Pete Mulhall (Citibank). All provide valuable counsel to our clients. Other local service providers include moving and hauling companies such as EZ Moving and TJ Moving, stagers Christy Kinsman and Paul Gervais and Corrie LaManna and photographers Bernadette and John Queenan.

We meet clients for coffee, strategizing or just socializing at Tusk & Cup and other local eateries. We use local merchants such as Nature's Temptations, Cellar XV, The Loft at Bissell's, Bella Home, and Rodier Flowers for open houses and client gifts – and, of course, The Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce provides us with great local gift certificates!
