Ridgefield Orthodontist Gives Community Something to Smile About!

February was National Children’s Dental Health Month, and to show his support to the community, board certified orthodontist Dr. Blaine Langberg visited local elementary schools. “I love giving back to the community,” said Dr. Langberg, “and I could think of nothing more valuable than to provide children with the knowledge and tools to keep their teeth healthy for a lifetime.” Dr. Langberg and his team taught kindergarteners, as well as, first and second graders how to take care of their teeth, make healthy food choices, and how cavities are formed. Branchville first grade teacher, Jennifer Armas was very appreciative of Dr. Langberg taking time out of his busy schedule. “It was fun, engaging, age appropriate, and the students were still talking about it the next the day.”

Being a Ridgefield parent of school age children, Dr. Langberg understands the importance of having fun, open discussions with children about dental health and how best to care for their developing smiles. In addition to speaking at the Ridgefield elementary schools, Dr. Langberg teaches a practice management course to third year orthodontic residents at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. “Although getting up in front of a room full of excited first and second graders can be more nerve-wrecking than teaching my residents at Harvard, I have a lot of fun talking to the kids about the benefits of keeping their teeth clean.”  You can also find Dr. Langberg cheering on his patients at school fairs, dance recitals, sporting events and community fundraisers. “I love supporting my patients and watching them grow inside and outside of my office. There is nothing more satisfying than helping to mold a beautiful and healthy smile!”

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that all children have an orthodontic screening at age 7 to check for bite problems.  “Early intervention can help us provide efficient and effective care to minimize the need for more complicated treatment later,” stated Dr. Langberg. “Our office provides complimentary screenings for all young patients as a way to identify current problems, anticipate future problems, and alleviate parents’ concerns if all seems normal.”
