Ridgefield Academy Student Wrestles His Way To New England Tourney

It is no secret that Ridgefield resident and Ridgefield Academy student 3rd grader Cole D., is passionate about the sport of wrestling, and it is safe to say that he is amazing at it! In February, Cole won the Connecticut Youth Wrestling Championship in the 10U division, the first time since 2011 that a Ridgefield resident won this age category. Wrestlers beware, Cole just turned nine and is eligible to compete in the same age group again next year. Cole’s record since last September is an incredible 102-21. He has taken on the best competition in the East and competed in 12 States - as far north as Maine, south as far as Virginia and as far west as Michigan.

Last month’s state championship included qualifiers from sectional meets in Danbury, Bristol, Milford and Killingly. The top 4 from each section were invited to compete for a state title at Hillhouse High School in New Haven on February 24. Cole was a top seed, finishing first in the Danbury section, which also guaranteed him a spot in the following New England tournament. There, he made the podium, finishing fifth, and was honored with the title of All New England.

Cole wrestles for Ridgefield Youth Wrestling, Empire Wrestling Academy (club team) and CTWAY, a Connecticut all-star travel team.

Congratulations, Cole on remarkable achievements in a sport that brings you so much joy and success!
