Get to Know Megan LiVolsi, Branchville Elementary School Teacher of the Year

How long have you been teaching?

About 15 years

What grade/subject do you teach?

I currently teach 5th grade but I previously taught 1st grade and 3rd grade at BES. I’ve honestly loved every grade I’ve taught.

Why did you become a teacher?

My mom was my first-grade teacher (a million years ago!) and she is and always has been such an inspiration for me. I saw how much she loved going to work each day and realized that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. My students from my first classes at BES are now in high school and college. Seeing them today as caring, concerned, successful, talented young adults is one of the most rewarding experiences for me and knowing that I played even the smallest role in helping shape who they are today is very humbling.

What do you love about your school/class/students?

Branchville School is my second home! I love my colleagues, the students, the parents, the feeling you get when you walk through the doors each morning.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In addition to spending time with family and friends, I enjoy reading, walking, hiking, and riding bikes with my daughter, Emma, around town. I also enjoy coaching basketball and softball and I’m a big Yankees fan.

What is your favorite color?

Blue

Favorite book?

It’s a tie...Pride and Prejudice and Wonder

Favorite food?

Pizza

Favorite thing to do in Ridgefield?

I love to be outside! Walking in town and in my neighborhood is one of my favorite things to do. Sometimes Emma and I stop for pizza at 850...we always save room for their famous s’ mores pizza for dessert!
