Looking Glass Animal Rescue Participates in Relay for Life this Friday for Co-Founder's Son Diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Looking Glass Animal Rescue is participating in Katonah-Lewisboro’s Relay For Life event for Co-Founder Jody Harris-Stern’s 10 year old son Bennett who was diagnosed with stage 3 Nodular Lymphocyte-Predomanant Hodgkin Lymphoma in March. Their team is a designated #GoldTogether Team, which means that 100% of the fundraising is designated to childhood cancer research and services.

Daniela Raciti, Director of Marketing and Operations, created the Relay For Life team - aptly named Bennett's Rescuers” - after meeting the Katonah-Lewisboro chapter’s volunteer Marisa at Serene Escape Spa in Ridgefield, CT last month. Both Marisa and Daniela were hosting events for cancer in the Spa on the same day; After Marisa’s Zumba event for the American Cancer Society, Daniela held a card making workshop for families to create cards to send to Bennett. Word about the cards spread fast and over 100 of them from multiple states were forwarded to Bennett, who is currently undergoing chemo. Immensely inspired and literally in tears from the outpouring of love, Daniela created the Relay For Life team with guidance from Marisa and asked if she, Jody, and her husband, Jarrett, could all make speeches.

“Our pack is fundraising and walking this year to show love and support for 10 year old Bennett who began an aggressive, and unforgiving, form of chemotherapy on April 30th. We don't want Bennett thinking he has to go through this fight alone - he has a large family behind him who are praying for him and thinking of him,” said Daniela, who is Team Captain of “Bennett’s Rescuers”.

When Jody learned of the Relay For Life team made in honor of her son, she took to Facebook to express her thoughts: “The amount of love and support has been overwhelming. I am in awe of how many people are behind Team Bennett and beyond appreciative. Thank you from all of us in the Stern house. You all make this difficult time a little easier.”

The Katonah-Lewisboro Relay For Life event will take place on Friday, June 14th from 5pm to 12am at John Jay High School in Cross River, NY. It is a family oriented evening of music, activities, food, entertainment, and fun that is open to all, whether you’ve been touched by cancer or are facing a cancer diagnosis. Nobody should feel alone.
