Wooster School’s Jacob Smith of Ridgefield Named US Lacrosse High School All-American

Each year US Lacrosse, the national governing body for men's and women's lacrosse, selects the national boys' and girls' high school lacrosse All-American teams. Jacob Smith ‘19 of Wooster School was recognized as the best player in Western New England Division III lacrosse with his selection as a high school All-American. This award is voted on annually by the Western New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Lacrosse Coaches Association on behalf of US Lacrosse. This is the highest possible honor given to high school lacrosse players and only the third time in Wooster School’s history.

After receiving the 2019 All-American Award Smith said, “While the All-American Lacrosse award is an individual award, it would be absent minded if I didn’t say it was a collaborative effort from multiple groups.   For every goal I scored there was an assist that had to be made and for every assist there had to be a goal and I want to thank all of my teammates for making that possible. I would like to thank my coaches for yelling at me when it was necessary (and unnecessary) because it guided me down the correct path.  Finally I would like to thank all that have supported me throughout my six years on the Wooster lacrosse team, from parents I hardly know to close family and friends, I truly appreciate all of the support you’ve given me.”

Coach Bill Rexford, of Ridgefield, CT, describes Jacob’s impact on the team, "If Jacob never scored a goal for us this year, he would still be in consideration for our team MVP. His leadership was positive, enthusiastic and constant. He led the way, and brought us along with him. But lucky for us, he did score some goals - 46 of them along with 21 assists. He gave his all, and we are proud of him and share his appreciation for this recognition."

Jacob will continue his lacrosse playing career as a student at Colorado College next year.
