Cancer Survivor Paul Fitzpatrick Celebrates 10th Anniversary with 100-Mile Ride

Ridgefield native Paul Fitzpatrick fought a rare form of lung cancer when he was 27 and has chosen a special way to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his successful surgery, cycling 100 miles on July 27 and has set an ambitious goal of raising $10,000 for CT Challenge.

"After going through a serious cancer diagnosis, surgery and treatment at a relatively young age, it's a great feeling to have that ten years behind me and I felt like this ride was a way to celebrate that," he says. "Most people would probably throw a party to celebrate but I think I had to convince myself that I'm still capable of completing a ride like this. And survivors face a unique set of challenges that many people aren't aware of."

Fitzpatrick had surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan to remove half of one lung and underwent chemotherapy afterward. He has gone on to make a full recovery and has three kids with his wife Kate, also a Ridgefield native. They live here in town.

The CT Challenge (CTC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the 15.5 million cancer survivors in Connecticut and throughout the U.S. rebuild, improve, and prolong their lives through exercise, nutrition, mind-body health, and community-building support programs. You can donate to support Fitzpatrick's ride in honor of other cancer survivors here
