Former Ridgefield Resident Jim Karlson, 69, has Died

Jimmy “Jim” Karlson, 69, of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield, husband of Kathleen (Battaglia) Karlson, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Danbury Hospital. 

Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois December 11, 1949, the son of the late Knute and Gertrude Karlson. He attended Chicago schools and was a graduate of Northeastern University. He was a U.S. army veteran and a research chemist. Of the many patents that Jim held, Sear’s Weatherbeater Paint was one of the most well-known to the American public. An area resident for the past 39 years, coming from Chicago, he was a member of the U.S. Chemical Association. He enjoyed fresh water fishing and authored the book, “God is Not A Religion.” It was his deep faith and relationship with God and his scientific background that lead him to write this book. His desire was for everyone to read the scriptures regularly and follow them throughout their daily activity in life.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by two sons, Scott Karlson and his wife, Tara of Redding, CT and Andrew Karlson of Danbury, CT; two daughters, Teresa Karlson of Ridgefield, and Lynda Zamolsky and her husband, Peter, of Summerville, SC; a brother John Karlson and his wife, Joanne, of Milton, DE; a sister, Jean Miller; six grandchildren, Gregory, Alexis, Adam, William, Brien, and Kelly. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a son, Adam.

A gathering of relatives and friends will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2019 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, CT concluded with a Celebration of Life Service at 12:30 p.m.

Memorial donations in Jim’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
