Summer in the City as Dalio Fellows for Three RHS Teachers

RHS Teachers Attend Summer Forum

This summer three RHS teachers spent a week in New York City as Dalio Fellows at Lincoln Center. Summer in New York City is memorable for many reasons - the heat! The tourists! The broken subways! But Summer in New York City also gave three Ridgefield High School teachers the opportunity for personal and professional growth, cross-grade, and discipline collegiality, and the excitement of week in Manhattan, based at Lincoln Center.

Lincoln Center has been educating teachers through their Summer Forum for 40 years, and this year, Julie Henderson (English), Anne Lester (Art / Visual and Performing Arts), and Ashley Vidmar (English) attended one of the week-long programs as Dalio Fellows. They and nearly 80 other K-12 Connecticut teachers attended the workshop on Aesthetic Education and their experience was completely sponsored by a generous grant from the Dalio Foundation.

The Five-Day Aesthetic Education Immersion is an intense experience that asks participants to think about their curriculum differently, and also has them participate in art in ways that are new for many - discussing and analyzing but also creating art, movement, and music - and considering how to use the tenets of Aesthetic education in their own classes. The week was filled with guest speakers, live performances and the opportunity to experience all that New York City has to offer.
