Ridgefield Academy Science Teacher Climbs Mount Kilimanjaro in Honor of Older Brother, Presentation at Ridgefield Library

Ridgefield Library Presents "Kilimanjaro, Red Sweaters, and Zebras: A Teacher's Spring Break of a Lifetime" on Thursday, September 26 at 7pm.  Please register.

Mac Rand lives in Ridgefield and teaches science at Ridgefield Academy. This past spring he joined seven other hikers and reached the summit of 19,341 foot tall Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money for leukemia research after losing an older brother. But that wasn’t all. He then spent a week visiting the Mungere School and the Red Sweater Project, and he hopes to build a connection between Mungere and RA.

Finally, he spent a day in Ngorongoro Crater observing wildlife and was fortunate to see the “Big Five”. His presentation will appeal to anyone interested in Kilimanjaro, education in Tanzania, African wildlife, and family bonds and how we deal with loss.
