Silhouette artist will visit Ridgefield Historical Society on Dec. 8

Unlike what an early 18th Century silhouette artist might have done, 21st Century silhouette artist Deborah O’Connor does not use a “physiognotrace,” which provided a quick outline of the subject’s profile. Ms. O’Connor, who will be cutting silhouette portraits at the Ridgefield Historical Society on Sunday, Dec. 8, will rely on her keen eye and equally sharp scissors.

She can create a portrait in five minutes, even when her subject is a wiggly toddler, and she also does pets’ images, working from photographs or with the actual pet.

The Ridgefield Historical Society at 4 Sunset Lane hosts this signature event with Deborah O’Connor as a community program for members and friends; the portraits are ideal holiday gifts. An original silhouette costs $35 ($30 for members), mounted on cardstock; extra copies are $15 each. Mats and frames are available for an extra fee.

Ms. O’Connor asks that subjects dress in attire they would like captured in the silhouette; details will show, including bows, ribbons, neckties, collars, hats, suit jackets, etc.

All silhouettes are done by appointment, which may be made by calling the Ridgefield Historical Society at 203-438-5821 Tuesday through Thursday, 10 to 5. Sessions will be scheduled from 10 until 3 on Dec. 8.
