Sister of Deceased Combat Veteran in Search of Her Brother's Heart (and a Special Ridgefield Resident)

A post on Hello Ridgefield Facebook page caught the attention and sentiment of many. And is especially timely with Veterans Day being tomorrow.

"As some of you know, my little brother, a combat Veteran passed away in June. One of our favorite pictures of him is this one," she wrote. The photo shows her brother standing in front of the patriotic heart adhered to a utility pole on Main Street. The heart reads, "Thank you Spc. Nicholas Carpenter! Come Home Safe!"

She said, "This was the day he came home from a tour in Iraq (the best day of our lives)."

But, who made these hearts that honored our local military heroes? And, where did they go?

She said, "There was an incredible woman who made these hearts for all of our servicemen and women and put them up along Main Street. One day they were gone. We would be willing to pay for his heart so we can always see it and remember this incredible day. Does anyone know how to get ahold of her?"

In a long thread of comments, someone noted that Ridgefield resident Dorian Peckham was responsible for creating the hearts and hanging them in the downtown area.

Stay tuned as we reach out to Dorian and find out what happened to our hearts.

We are saddened to hear that Spc. Carpenter has passed. Thank you for your service, we salute you and all of our veterans.
