Ridgefielder Jan Triani Runs Philadelphia Marathon for Let Me Run, Shares Passion for Wellness with Local Boys

Ridgefield Resident Jan Triani to Run Philadelphia Marathon for Let Me Run

This weekend, Ridgefielder Jan Triani will run in the Philadelphia Marathon in the name of a nonprofit she is passionate about - Let Me Run.

A nonprofit that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong, Let Me Run offers a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running, the program encourages boys to develop their psychological, emotional and social health, in addition to their physical health. Triani is the Regional Director of Let Me Run, Fairfield County.

Twice a week for seven weeks, two trained volunteer coaches lead an elementary or middle school team through practice. Designed to amplify confidence, self-expression, and respect for others, each practice includes a lesson from the Let Me Run curriculum that incorporates running, games and activities. Each fall and spring season culminates in a 5k race festival that celebrates the boys’ personal growth.

On November 3, three Ridgefield teams comprised of students from Farmingville Elementary School, Veterans Park, and St. Mary School participated tried to outrun the police in Cops and Robbers, as part of Let Me Run.  "The Let Me Run program nurtures and celebrates every aspect of what it really means to be a boy, and we let them run," explains Triani.

Triani says that over 130 boys from Fairfield Country completed in the race that was hosted by the Ridgefield Police Benevolent Association. The Let Me Run teams, twelve in total, were comprised of residents from  Darien, New Canaan, Newtown, Ridgefield, and Rowayton.

The Cops and Robbers 5K was the final part of Let Me Run's 7 week emotional wellness program which focuses on combining exercise with fun activities and lessons to help boys learn teamwork, build relationship skills, create friendships, grow emotionally, amplify their self-esteem, empower themselves and others, and live an active lifestyle.

Interested in being part of Fairfield County's Let Me Run? "We will have a spring season and are always looking for coach volunteers and would love to expand the program to any school or local YMCA."  Please contact Jan Triani at jant@letmerun.org.

In order to keep membership costs down and to provide scholarships, Let Me Run also welcomes community support in the form of donations.
