RVNAhealth Spelling Bee is Wednesday, March 18 at The Ridgefield Playhouse
On Wednesday, March 18, the 2020 RVNAhealth Spelling Bee contenders will bring to Ridgefield Playhouse their quick wits, steely nerves … and of course, family and friends to cheer on their efforts. Who will walk away with the crown that evening is anybody’s guess. In the meantime, during the weeks and days leading up to the big event, we are sharing sneak peeks of each of our estimable contenders.

Edton Ganal, MD, orthopedic surgeon at OrthoConnecticut.
While we can’t speak for his spelling prowess, we can tell you this. Edton Ganal, MD is not likely going to get flustered by nerves on stage at the Ridgefield Playhouse. This orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy for 13 years, and treated combat casualties when deployed with the Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan … Dr. Ganal brings steely nerves and even temperament to the competition. His goal? To surpass his first-round departure in his elementary school bee.

What are the rules?
Our Bee is modeled after the famous National Scripps Spelling Bee – with a few twists. One of our special rules of play is that contestants are allowed a “lifeline” in the audience to help them out with difficult words. See the full list of rules here.
How do you ensure that everyone follows the rules?
We have judges for that! This year, they are Theresa Santoro, RVNAhealth president & CEO; Geoffrey Morris, editor and publisher, TownVibe and the winner of the inaugural RVNAhealth Spelling Bee in 2012; and 2019 Spelling Bee champion, Basil Kolani of Ridgefield Academy.
- Date: Wednesday, March 18
- Time: 7:00pm
- Location: Ridgefield Playhouse, 80 East Ridge Road, Ridgefield, CT
